How it Works

Before the grand finale, students will be demonstrating their mettle on three rounds along the way.

Masterclass cum PRELIMS

Starts in May, 2021:- Attend the 2- Day Masterclass, learn and participate in Prelims with a team of 4-6 members.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION ROUND

Within 7 days from the Prelims:- Qualifying teams will submit a solution for a problem in any field of their respective category. (Rocketry or Satellites)

YOUTUBE ROUND

To be held on July 6, 2021:- Further qualified teams are supposed to submit a video showing their progress on the proposed ideas.

GRAND FINALE

To be held on July 24 - 25, 2021:- The top tears from the respective categories will pitch the solutions to a panel of expert judges

The Space Science Challenge 2021 has been initiated by Spaceonova with an objective to induce problem-solving skills, design thinking and a solution-oriented mindset among students in the fields of space technology and exploration.

This challenge has been divided into two categories - namely, Rocketry and Satellites.
The Space Science Challenge 2021 will be conducted in four exigent levels and in the final round, the three most innovative teams who succeed in demonstrating the right mix of technical and entrepreneurial skills will be awarded for their exuberant ideas, which would further encourage them to pursue careers in the field of space sciences and ignite the change they wish to see in the cosmos.

Event Details

Each Category has Four Levels

Round 1 {Masterclass cum Prelims}

  • To participate in SSC 2021, students will have to choose their slots for Prelims and register for the same, free of cost.
  • Participants can choose to attend the 2-day paid Masterclass to learn the basics of their respective categories before attempting the Prelims. (Each team should comprise of 4-6 members).
  • The duration of the Masterclass will be 2 hrs i.e, 4 PM – 6 PM IST each day.
  • On the day of the Prelims, starting at 7 PM IST (which is just after the second day of the masterclass each team has to perform the task as per the problem statements shared.
  • Upto 5 Teams from each slot will be selected for the next round.

Round 2 {Abstract Submission}

  • Qualifying teams will be submitting a solution for anyone problem in the domain of the category they are participating in.
  • Teams will be given 7 days after prelims to submit the same.
  • Based on the abstract submitted, top 3 teams from each slot will be shortlisted for the next round.

Round 3 {YouTube Round}

  • The qualifying teams are supposed to work on their proposed ideas.
  • The teams will be judged based on the progress of their prototypes via online mode, on 6 July 2021.
  • TOP 1-2 TEAMS will be invited for the FINAL ROUND of SSC 2021.

GRAND FINALE

  • Invited teams from all slots will compete in the final round.
  • Top teams from all over the globe will pitch their designs/ prototypes.
  • A panel of expert judges will provide their insights on the respective designs and prototypes.
  • Prizes worth upto 1 lakh INR will be awarded to the winners.
  • Many other rewarding opportunities will be offered to the finalists.

Want to get the basics right? Attend the 2-day Masterclass on Rocketry/Satellites (in respective slots).

Participate in the PRELIMS, and get qualified for the next round.

Abstract submission! Let your groundbreaking ideas take the stand, thereby taking you to the next round.

Present the implementation of your analytical ideas and get onboard for the ‘GRAND FINALE’.

  • Slot 1: 1st - 2nd May, 2021
  • Slot 2: 8th - 9th May, 2021
  • Slot 3: 15th - 16th May, 2021
  • Slot 4: 22nd - 23rd May, 2021
  • Slot 5: 29th - 30th May, 2021

PRELIMS will be held on the second day of each slot at 7 PM IST.

Satellites

  • Slot 1: 5th - 6th May, 2021
  • Slot 2: 12th - 13th May, 2021
  • Slot 3: 19th - 20th May, 2021
  • Slot 4: 26th - 27th May, 2021
  • Slot 5: 2nd - 3rd June, 2021

PRELIMS will be held on the second day of each slot at 7 PM IST.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I participate without a team?

No, to be eligible to participate, you will need a team of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 members.

Can we enroll if we are not collegiate?

Yes, you can enrol if the members of your team are not your collegiates.

Is there any registration fee for the Space Science Challenge 2021?

The registration for the challenge is FREE of cost, however, if you choose to attend the masterclass, a nominal fee of 199 INR (Indian)/10 USD (Non-Indian) per member would be charged to support the program expenses.

What if we do not know about creating models and prototypes related to Rocketry and Satellites?

Masterclass in the first round is a learning phase that will help you in learning and achieving the required skills.

Will the entire challenge be held online?

Yes, the entire SSC 2021 will be held online.

How many teams will be selected after Round 1/ Level 1?

Upto top 5 teams will be shortlisted from each slot.

How are we going to stay updated with details about the challenge?
